I have been in this business for over 20 years, and by far the best advertising is "word of mouth."
Now having said that you may be asking, if it's all by word of mouth, why have this website? The answer is our family is moving to Kenosha after living in Colorado for the past 5 years. I am looking to reestablish my business now that we are back in the area. Previous to Colorado we lived in N. Illinois all our lives.
I know, I picked a heck of a time to start a business with the economy and all. But I know once I get my name out there things will take care of themselves. I have several references backing my abilities.

People expect and deserve quality work. If you're a "hack," you will not last long in this business. I pride myself in not having "callbacks" and complete satisfaction for my clients. Every customer has a way of how they want things done and that deserves the utmost respect. I give my opinion, beyond that, the customer is always right. The job completed will reflect your desires.
Trust is key as well. 90% of the folks I work for have full time jobs. So I usually end up with a key in order to complete the work. It takes time to gain that level of trust. I am very proud of the long list of folks who trust me in there home. How I gain trust quickly is when I am referred by a clients close acquaintance.
Charge Fair prices. I have had very few people complain about my fee's, (except my wife, wanting more income.) They have not risen since 2002, ranging from $20 - $35 an hour. Lower end for drywall repairs and painting. Higher end when doing Electrical or Plumbing remodels.
It is very satisfying hearing those words, "great Job." That is what motivates me, keeping me focused with the tasks at hand.
